Ex Nihilo
Webcomic Hiatus

Apparently people have taken my absence from the Webcomic support forum and this post in a number of different ways. I’ll try to be as clear as I can hear, as I realize some things have definitely made it appear as if I have (or will soon) abandon Webcomic.

About three weeks ago someone very close to me died after a year of fluctuating health and near-deaths. The entire thing has been extremely difficult, and it’s left me pretty drained physically and emotionally. I’ve kept it to myself because, really, it’s none of your business. :-P

One thing that is your business, however, is that since the death I’ve had no particular interest in working on Webcomic. Not that I never will. It’s just that right now, after over a year of spending most of my nights and weekends in one hospital or another watching someone I cared about more than anyone else waste away, I need a break from a lot of things, Webcomic included.

Here’s the deal:

  • Nothing’s going anywhere. Even I will still be around. I’m not planning to abandon Webcomic and never work on it ever again, though I will be significantly less active in working directly with Webcomic for the time being.
  • In the meantime, I would love it if knowledgable Webcomic users contributed to the project. I realize there aren’t a ton of you but I know you exist. :-P The support forum could definitely use some love, and if you think you’re good enough to handle some trac issues you can contribue directly to the plugin and themes. A number of Webcomic 3 template tags still need to be “officially” documented as well, and I know users would love to see more video tutorials.
  • If you would like to help out, in any way, contact me at support@webcomicms.net to let me know.

My apologies to everyone for my sudden absence and the perception (that I obviously didn’t help) that Webcomic has been or will be abandoned. That’s not the plan right now; even if I never return to working on Webcomic directly I’ll do my best to find someone that can continue the project. Right now I just need a break.
